Sylvius Leopold Weiss is considered the greatest lutenist of the late Baroque period. He was born in Germany but also worked in Italy where he met Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti. His work consists of thousands of songs, usually organized in the form of Suite. The Passacaglia is a dance of Spanish origin, which provides a melodic line varied continuously. The Passacaglia in D major, composed by Weiss, is a piece quite difficult, suitable for those with advanced preparation with the classical guitar.
If you like early music played with classical guitar, let me also suggest you “Air on the G String” by Bach, a special version with Pythagorean tuning. Thank you.
