Perhaps not everyone knows that famous “Air on G string“, whose author is Bach, was not named by him, but results from a transposition of the German violinist August Wilhelmj. The original key was D major, but Wilhelmj transcribed in C major, to be able to play all the air on the G string of the violin. For this piece there are many versions, but the original is the second movement of Bach’s Third Suite for Orchestra in D major, which is played only by strings. A beautiful version is also that of The Swingle Singers, who make it only by voice. For the meditative quality to this music, I think that even the classical guitar can make it good. So here are some videos and guitar tablature to hear and play it.
